Need soft butter or soft cream cheese fast? Heat a butter knife on a hot gas flame on your stove...(not the handle) and be careful as you scrape what you need for your toast or bread sticks.
Ice Cream as hard as a rock? Heat heavy serving spoon over gas flame and slide it in to get your serving. (Metal ice cream scoop would work too).
Send me a hint that you have been keeping secret. :)
